Odorous House Ants
Odorous House Ants are black in color, and often nest in the wall and floor voids of homes and buildings. Their colonies are very large. Odorous House Ants can detect and avoid most common pesticides, so be aware that using a over-the-counter pesticides can actually make an Odorous House Ants problem worse. When we treat for Odorous House Ants, we use a non-detectable material that is very effective at controlling and eliminating the source of infestation, not just the ants you see.
Workers move fast and often travel in columns. When alarmed, they become erratic and release a peculiar coconut-like odor to attract other ants, hence their common name Odorous House Ants.
Treatment for Odorous House Ants
If an Odorous House Ants infestation has moved into your home or building, control can be difficult.
Our technician will inspect the areas of infestation and apply specified control materials into the cracks and crevices of those areas, such as the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and baseboards. Interior perimeter walls that are experiencing activity will need to be drilled and injected from the exterior. This application is not applied to walls with HardiePlank siding or other types of siding that have restrictions. If this is the case with your building, then the other option is to perform the injection method from the interior. To complete the initial treatment, the entire outside perimeter foundation is treated so materials are passed on by ants that travel back and forth from the main colony which is located outside. If there is a crawl space under your building, it will be inspected and treated where there is activity.
